WHAT I DO.I specialize in curiosity.
My approach to advertising, creative direction, teaching, and ideas in general is very much informed by a genuine sense of curiousness. I believe every day you should learn something. Not just for the purpose of accumulating knowledge, but so that you can share it. With colleagues, with clients, with students, with the world. |
It just so happens that I've learned a lot in my 25+ years in advertising.
I’ve learned that treating people well has a tendency to bring out their best.
I’ve learned that there’s no replacement for hard work.
I’ve learned that listening is the most potent weapon a creative has in his/her arsenal. And that asking questions provides the best ammunition.
I’ve learned that insight is the engine that drives creativity. It’s also why I’m a strategy-first proponent.
I’ve learned it's more gratifying when awards are the outcome of doing great work, not the purpose.
I’ve learned that making stuff that people respond to and enjoy is both addictive and fulfilling.
I've learned that success in digital is all about tinkering and playing. "Digital" comes from the Latin word meaning finger, after all.
I’ve learned that collaboration isn’t merely a nice buzzword, it’s a necessary condition for success.
I’ve learned that nice trumps nasty, humility beats hubris, and that alliteration is awesome.
I’ve learned that the business I love is just that – a business. And that business needs creativity more than ever to help solve its problems. Which is probably why I still love the business as much as I do.
